Wow! Look at what you’ve done.
- You’ve uncovered your personal Core Values (that were always there, but hidden maybe…)
- You’ve created your Vision Statement (and learned to dream big…)
- You’ve determined your unique differentiator with your Only Statement (and built confidence in your unique abilities and qualities…)
Now, let’s boil this all down into just 2 words and those words become your personal Guiding Principles.
My guiding principles are “Freedom and Flexibility”.
These two words have become the gage by which I measure everything. The question ALWAYS becomes:
“Is this decision I’m about to make improving Freedom and Flexibility, or taking me further away from it.”
Those words represent the most important drivers for me. My Vision Statement, Core Values and Only Statement back up those Guiding Principles. But you have to do the work. And you have to allow yourself the time to reflect on these, and test them. They kind of bubble up after you spend a bit of time reviewing your previous work.
The question I asked myself is, “What’s most important to me?” And the answer was simple and clear: I value my freedom the most. That’s freedom in my health, relationships, business, money and well-being. Anything that keeps me locked in is a problem.
And flexibility was the close second. Working in a job, not being able to go to work in the coffee shop, or meet my wife for lunch, or spend time with friends…well, not being able to do all that would make me miserable.
One of the side benefits of Clarity Coaching Camp is to NEVER be miserable.
Those are my Guiding Principles. Yours may be:
- Integrity and Security
- Playful and Fun
- Focused and Relevant
- Respect and Support
- Family and Faith
- Service and Friendship
- Or any combination of words that resonate with your soul!
The value of these Guiding Principles is two fold:
- You are creating a virtual decision framework. Every decision must support your Guiding Principles and not violate your Core Values.
- You’re creating a clear perspective on the world. And when you have perspective based in a
solid foundation of your beliefs, no one else has the power to make your day bad or take you off track.
Anything – business, relationships, health, well-being, or money, anything that violates your Guiding Principles MUST go. (And that’s next.)
With these Guiding Principles, you’ll have a short-hand version of all the work we’ve done to this point.
After watching the short video, I want you to download the document and complete it.
